In bloom
More crops are calling it a day giving space for fall planting of early spring blooms. We still have purply hyacinth bean pods, zinnias, celosia, gomphrena, Mexican sunflowers, and basil being harvested along with a few roses, snapdragons, marigold, verbena, and yarrow. We also have a small number of mini pumpkins surviving the onslaught of caterpillars, pill bugs, and pincher bugs.
Available Starters / Seeds
Seeds: Dill, Morning Glory, Bells of Ireland, chamomile, bachelor’s button, love-in-a-mist (nigella), forget-me-nots, cosmos, dara (colored queen Anne’s lace), Mexican sunflowers, gomphrena, bee balm, celosia, cock’s comb, lime basil, blue spice basil, purple hyacinth bean, hardy hibiscus, bupleurum, and marigold.
LAST WEEKEND for BEARDED IRIS RHIZOMES
Farm Tasks for the Week
Started another round of seedlings indoors: bachelor buttons, phlox (repeat), pincushion (repeat), icelandic poppies, dill, bluebonnets (repeat), pansies/violas, rudbeckia (repeat), and forget-me-nots.
We have four of the six need beds laid out and mixed up with compost, peat moss, pine bark mulch, and dirt. Two more to go along with plumbing.
Decided to redo the wildflower field. Making seven furrows for further bearded iris / wildflower production. The plan is to separate the various varieties of iris with small patches of wildflowers in each row.
You can still direct seed your wildflowers (bluebonnets, bee balm, etc) if you haven’t gotten around to it yet, but the window is closing fast.
Chickens
The guinea hen kept tempting fate and is no longer with us. She flew out of the coop several times (because the grass is greener). The dogs caught her and the third time she didn’t make it. We also lost Cross-beak this week, but thankfully not to the dogs or predators. We’re assuming it was due to old age. We have eggs available this week, but the quantity is starting to dwindle with the shorter days.

We have the following jams available:
