Farm Tasks for the Week

Cleaned up the dutch iris by cutting them to the ground. Also removed the bread poppies and bluebonnets which were spent for the season. Weeded the front flower beds and paths which were not too bad thanks to the cardboard / wood chips in the paths and thick mulched leaves in the beds.

Thick mulched leaves in the beds have the downside of promoting pill bugs which eat seedlings. Sluggo is a great control for the pill bugs!

Harvested nearly all the bells of Ireland due to them being weighed down by the rain.

Transplanted sunflower and zinnia starters.

Chickens

Having a buggy spring with spiders and chiggers, so let the chickens roam the yard. They immediately went and started eating up the nearly ripe blackberries! We have eggs available. If you’d like to reserve, email/text.
