The peonies, phlox, and foxglove are done for the season, and this looks like the last week for the bumper crop of snapdragons, roses, and clematis. The forget-me-nots, love-in-a-mist, yarrow, and larkspur have all hit their stride this week. We also have balsam, dianthus, poppies, bachelor buttons, nicotiana, delphinium, tassel flower, verbena, and Siberian wallflower.

Farm Tasks for the Week

Finally put the supports and support netting out. Put it off a little too long so it was a bit of a challenge to get around the bells of Ireland, but it’s done!

Added support stakes to Eryngium. Very happy to be on top of this as this will be the first year that I got it done before they flopped over.

Transplanted the sunflowers and zinnias into the former ranunculus beds and started some balsam indoors for the shadier ranunculus bed (not too shady in early spring, but now that the trees have leafed out it is).

Chickens

We have a plethora of eggs. Join the email list to get a special discount this week on eggs!

Jams / Jellies

We have had a bumper crop of chamomile this year. The chamomile unfortunately fell over in the heavy rains last week and then started growing crookedly upwards making it unusable for bouquets. Decided to try using the flowers for a jelly, and it turned out scrumptious. We’ve also had more violas than I can keep up with pressing for pressed flower cards so decided to make them into a jelly too. This jelly is very interesting. The juice is a beautiful turquoise blue that turns a pretty pink upon addition of the lemon. The taste is flowery almost like berries unlike the raw flowers. We have very limited quantity of the Viola Jelly, so call/text to reserve a jar if you don’t want to try your luck.

We have the following jams available:

Usual Flavors: Seasonal Flavors:

  • Strawberry Jam - Strawberry Lemonade

  • Strawberry Blueberry Jam - Chamomile Jelly

  • Strawberry Peach Jam - Viola Jelly
