This is our first Friday back at Robson Ranch tomorrow from 8 - 11 am with a plethora of ranunculus and anemones along with all our other products! We will have the flower cart out this Sunday starting at 10:30 am with flowers, jam, eggs, and a few tomato starters.

In bloom

We have tons of anemones and ranunculus this week along with a small sampling of ornamental kale, phlox, and Icelandic Poppy. Ranunculus or Persian buttercup is an early spring favorite with a slightly longer vase life than anemones at 7-10 days using flower food. We cut ours at the “marshmallow” stage while still in a relatively tight bud. However, the flowers open bigger and bigger everyday.

Available Starters / Seeds

Seeds: Cilantro, catnip, parsley, dill, morning glory, bells of Ireland, chamomile, bachelor’s button, love-in-a-mist (nigella), forget-me-nots, cosmos, dara (colored queen Anne’s lace), Mexican sunflowers, gomphrena, bee balm, celosia, cock’s comb, lime basil, blue spice basil, purple hyacinth bean, hardy hibiscus, bupleurum, and marigold.

Starters: We have tomato (Sweet 100, Early Bush, Abe Lincoln, Rutgers, Sweet Gardener, Sweetie, Black Cherry, and Celebration), Catnip, Cilantro, Curly Parsley, and Red Yarrow ready to go. We will have peppers, rosemary, Lavender, Sage, Pink Yarrow, and a few mint varieties for sale later in the month.

Farm Tasks for the Week

Ran out of steam on the permanent planters due to February allergies. The plants in the three completed sections took the transplant well and have lots of new growth. Will have to do the other three next winter as dormancy is over. This spring is about two weeks earlier than last year, so our winter “break” is truncated.

Jumping pup challenge … found out they are using the wind break lattice for their jumping point which gives them a nice solid board to spring off. Will be rethinking how that part of the fence is constructed.

Extended 30-day forecast does not anticipate freezing, so we’ve officially entered spring clean-up. Been removing and mulching all the oak leaves in the iris beds and throughout the yard (to prevent blow back). Finished the front fence line and upper iris bed.

Folded and stored all our low tunnels and most of their supports. Pulled all the frost cloth which is now in a giant pile to be folded on a less windy day.

Chickens

The chickens are still laying regularly. We have plenty of eggs.
