In bloom
The second variety of dahlias joined this week! Another bumper crop of sunflower and rudbeckia so lots of yellows. Shasta Daisy, Yarrow, Carnation, and Snapdragons are joining the wind down with liatris, statice, larkspur, lemon bee balm, and bells of Ireland. The warm summer crops (zinnias, celosia, dianthus, Purple Coneflower, verbena, and basil) are pumping out the blooms along with pincushions which are very whimsical due to their slightly shady location.

Farm Tasks for the Week
You guessed it weeding, watering, and seed collecting.
I seem to be playing a game with the praying mantis this year. They enjoy hanging out on stems that are ready for harvest and have a surprisingly strong grip, so won’t shake off. I have to maneuver them with the clippers to a leaf and then cut off the leaf. They’re really fast movers so it can be a little nerve wracking as I really don’t want them to run up my arm! So far, only one has almost made it into the floral cooler. He got transported back outside to get back to work.
Chickens
Chickens are laying well. We picked up a half dozen of new ameraucana chicks this week. Not sure that they are actually ameraucanas as the coloring seems a bit off. Needless to say, the nephews are having a blast.
