HAPPY 4th of JULY!!! We will be at Robson Ranch tomorrow (Friday) from 8 - 11 am. We will not be at any markets on Saturday to enjoy the 4th with family. The Sunday flower cart will be out from roughly 10:00 - 7:00 wind permitting (< 15 mph) on both Saturday and Sunday.
In bloom
Liatris, statice, larkspur, yarrow, and lemon bee balm are done for the season. Another bumper crop of sunflower and rudbeckia so lots of yellows. Shasta Daisy, Carnation, Bells of Ireland, and Snapdragons eeked out a few more blooms but anticipating them to be done next week. Zinnias, celosia, pincushions, and basil are loving the hot summer weather!
Available Starters / Seeds
Seeds: Cilantro, catnip, parsley, dill, morning glory, bells of Ireland, chamomile, bachelor’s button, love-in-a-mist (nigella), forget-me-nots, cosmos, dara (colored queen Anne’s lace), Mexican sunflowers, gomphrena, bee balm, celosia, cock’s comb, blue spice basil, purple hyacinth bean, hardy hibiscus, bupleurum, and marigold.
Starters: We have Fireworks Gomphrena, Coleus, Catnip, Curly Parsley, Peppermint, apple mint, Rosemary, Lavender, Sage, and Basil (Sweet, Genovese, Globe, Lime).
Farm Tasks for the Week
Aside from the usual (weeding, watering, and seed collecting), we are not in the bug war season! Lots of caterpillars especially on the snapdragons. My least favorite caterpillars also showed up on the gomphrena (the leaf rollers). Manually pulling along with BT spray is the current gameplan.
Grasshoppers are also starting to congregate. Going to have to start getting up a little earlier so I can decapitate them when they sleep in in the morning.
Chickens
Chickens decided to strike now that the new chicks are out in part of the coop. The chicks are growing quickly as usual, but we are out of eggs this week.
