In bloom

Looks like the last big lisianthus cut and the first round of sunflowers! Bachelor buttons, nigella, and chamomile are out of the ground and replaced with baby celosia, zinnia, and sunflowers. Snapdragons, celosia, gladiolus, bells of ireland, yarrow, lemon bee balm, daisies, purple coneflowers, statice, roses, carnations, liatris, rudbeckia, milkweed, fireworks gomphrena, the first of the zinnias, the last erygnium of the year, and a stray gloriosa.

Farm Tasks for the Week

Bug wars … seems like the caterpillars and perhaps the grasshoppers are under control for now. The lace bugs are in full force and the ants are getting more aggressive with their aphid farms. Still squishing lots of bugs. Wish I could get that guinea hen to go eat them up.

Planted more sunflowers and scoured the edges of the yard for more leaves to mulch the few bald planters with.

We’re in the watering part of the year. Bought a simple moisture probe to see how effective our watering is. Surprised at how a single bed goes from perfect to dry depending on where the probe is inserted. Hoping the new mulch layer helps even that out.

Chickens

Another chicken picture photo bombed by the guinea hen. Chickens have slowed down production a little due to the hot weather. Eggs went fast this week, so we’re out until next week.
