Zinnias, celosia, gomphrena, lisianthus, and rudbeckia dominating this time of year as usual. After a wicked war with caterpillars, the snapdragons are still pumping out some short blooms. Our randoms for the week include roses, marigold, clematis, dara, dianthus, ballon flower, and verbena.

Available Starters / Seeds

Seeds: Dill, Morning Glory, Bells of Ireland, chamomile, blue bachelor buttons, bluebonnets (manually scarified), bachelor’s button, love-in-a-mist (nigella), forget-me-nots, cosmos, dara (colored queen Anne’s lace), Mexican sunflowers, gomphrena, bee balm, celosia, cock’s comb, lime basil, blue spice basil, Persian basil, Thai basil, purple hyacinth bean, hardy hibiscus, bupleurum, tassel flower, and marigold.

We have started seeds for tall snapdragons that will be available in mid to late September so let me know (email/text) if you want to reserve some.

Farm Tasks for the Week

Watering continues along with shade cloth for babies.

Prepped the garden space and transplanted out the ornamental kale for this winter. Really loved these last year, so hoping it goes well again. They are under a shade cloth and planted close (~4” spacing) to keep the heads small.

Dug out a very clay veggie garden square. Remove six inches of clay and then dug down another six inches and tilled it up. Added back six inches of compost, pine bark mulch, peat moss, and manure and tilled it all up again. Planted out some cucumbers, green beans, zucchini, and squash.

The dianthus, carnation, bluebonnets, and a snapdragon or two have sprouted for the indoor seeds. Still crossing my fingers on the rest.

Next week begins the fall bearded iris division!
